The Model 597 Floor Lamp, designed by celebrated Italian architect and designer Gianfranco Frattini and first introduced in 1961, is one of the defining icons of Italian modernist lighting. As the design that launched Frattini’s career in lighting, Model 597 showcases his unique vision of light as both a functional element and an expressive design feature.
Its instantly recognisable nylon fringes were inspired by both the fashion world and the distinctive entrance curtains found in Italian cafés and grocery stores during the late 1950s. Hidden lateral light sources create a spectacular 360-degree indirect illumination, while the fringes gently diffuse the light to produce a warm, atmospheric glow. Above, a reflective aluminium cover enhances the upward light, adding further warmth and visual depth.
