Midnight flowers, the new, sophisticated porcelain set by Marni conceived with Belgian design label Serax, celebrates the Italian fashion house’s artistic vision.
“I’m fascinated by porcelain, and the way I collect pieces is quite emotional,” says Francesco Risso, Marni’ s creative director. Introducing Midnight Flowers in Salone del Mobile last spring, a poetic collection of tableware, together with an exclusive series of wallpapers with Londonart, the Italian fashion brand expands its presence in the lifestyle segment.

The collection comprises 120 pieces – dinner and side plates, teacups and saucers, and bowls of various depths – marked by a flower motif designed by Risso himself. Decals are used to apply the pattern to the fine bone China, after which it is glazed, to make it more wear resistant while the slightly asymmetrical shapes serve to accentuate the hand-finished porcelain’s quality.

With his bohemian philosophy, Risso opted against partnering with classic porcelain makers (like Limoges) instead joining forces with Serax, the Belgium-based design brand founded in 1986 that is responsible for the tabletop lines of fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester.

“I like to merge different creations without specific rules as the result is always quite interesting—a nonhomogeneous ensemble that conveys my moods.”
